ACLU of Georgia

Rasman v. Stancil

The ACLU of Georgia filed a lawsuit seeking a temporary restraining order against Steve Stancil, Executive Director of the Georgia Building Authority, and Captain Lewis Young, Chief of the Capitol Police, who had prevented anyone from entering the Capitol building with a hand-held sign, which is core First Amendment activity.

On March 29, 2018,  a federal district court ruled in favor of the ACLU of Georgia and granted a temporary restraining order requiring the Capitol Police and other law enforcement to allow its client to display hand-held signs in the Capitol Building.
