2024 Legislative Session

OUR PRIORITIES

The ACLU of Georgia has an ambitious agenda to protect and advance the civil liberties and rights of all Georgians during the 2024 Legislative Session. We are focusing our efforts on:

  • Criminal Legal System Reform: Advocating for policies that address systemic issues in the criminal legal system, including due process, police accountability, sentencing reform, and the protection of civil liberties.
  • Voting Rights: Fighting against any attempts to restrict your access to the ballot and working to expand and protect the right to vote for all Georgians.
  • Privacy and Surveillance: Advocating for safeguards against unwarranted surveillance and fighting for increased privacy rights of individuals to reflect new privacy threats in the digital age.
  • LGBTQ+ Rights: Ensuring equal protection under the law for the LGBTQ+ community and advocating against discriminatory legislation.
  • Reproductive Rights: Defending the right to make personal healthcare decisions and advocating for policies that protect reproductive rights.

BILL TRACKING

Each year, we review hundreds of bills introduced in the Georgia Legislature for civil liberties implications, identifying those bills that we are going to advocate for or against and developing strategies accordingly.

We educate legislators and the public about ACLU-GA positions, draft legislation on priority issues, lobby on bills affecting civil liberties, testify or arrange for testimony on bills, and build coalitions to pursue pro-active legislative initiatives or battle anti-civil liberties legislation.

You can stay on top of the bills we are tracking on this page (below) or through our tracker on Fast Democracy, where you can subscribe for real time updates.
