This year marks the 60th anniversary of the Mississippi summer project that later became known as “Freedom Summer.” Civic education was one of the goals of this project, and civil rights advocates accomplished this through hundreds of freedom schools teaching academic skills, Black history and civic engagement across Mississippi.
Following the example set by the great leaders of the Mississippi summer project including our very own John Lewis, we are relaunching the ACLU of Georgia’s Freedom School this election season.
Mark your calendar to join us and learn more about what is happening in Georgia this election season. Halloween may not be far, but the real "spooks" are some of the horrors we are seeing around voting rights and civil liberties – that's why we're calling this the "Frights and Rights" edition of Freedom School.
You’ll have the opportunity to attend "classes" that cover issues on the ballot this November, ranging from election scenario planning, First Amendment rights and misinformation, the state of reproductive healthcare, and more.
