The ACLU of Georgia welcomes interns each spring, summer and fall for legal, policy, communications, community engagement and development work. Interns can be from all levels of education: high-school, undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate. All applicants must complete an application form and provide a resume. Some applicants may be required to provide additional documents.

The internship this semester will offer $15/hr for approximately 15 hours per week for those eligible to be paid. Those receiving school credit will not be eligible to be paid but are still encouraged to apply. Individual schedules will be arranged with intern supervisors. All applicants must complete this application form which includes providing a resume. Some applicants may be required to provide additional documents. In order to receive compensation, you will be required to complete additional documentation such as a W-2 and I-9.

LEGAL INTERNSHIP

APPLICATIONS FOR THE SUMMER 2025 LEGAL INTERNSHIP ARE OPEN.

The Summer 2025 term will run for 10 weeks from approximately early June to early August. All applicants must complete this application form and provide a resume and writing sample.  Please remember you must currently be in law school to be considered for the legal internship.

Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis. The application deadline is Friday, January 31, 2025.

Legal interns will be expected to perform legal research, draft legal memoranda, contribute to legal pleadings and other documents, and be otherwise available to support the ACLU of Georgia’s litigation activities. The internship is designed for those who are interested in pursuing a career in public interest litigation. Legal interns must be in law school.  Applicants should have strong research, writing, and communication skills, as well as a demonstrated interest in civil liberties and civil rights. Legal applicants can apply through their law school each semester.

About the Internships

Communications

Interns in this position will be responsible for a variety of duties related to communicating the ACLU of Georgia’s work to the public. Examples include creating and editing video projects and graphics for social media, drafting social media posts, and/or formatting articles and photos for use in printed materials and reports, or updating the website. Interns may also be responsible for some administrative tasks of the Communications Department.

Community Engagement & Outreach

Interns in this position will recruit, train, and maintain volunteers and members to get them actively engaged with the ACLU of Georgia. Interns will also work to support event creation and coordination, such as events being held at the Georgia State Capitol and in the community. Interns should have an interest in political engagement and must be able to work with people from diverse backgrounds.

Development

Interns in this position will assist the ACLU of GA Development Department with essential tasks that support continued growth of fundraising (individual giving, corporate and foundation grants and special events) to generate and increase sustainable revenue for programs and operations. Assignments may include donor research, data entry, editing and proofreading letters and reports, and assistance with event planning and execution. Interns will have exposure to and opportunities to participate in ACLU meetings, programs and public events. Interns applying for this position should be able to focus on long-term projects as well as on logistical and administrative tasks.

 

Legal

Legal interns will be expected to perform legal research, draft legal memoranda, and potentially legal briefs and other documents, and be otherwise available to support the ACLU of Georgia’s litigation activities. Legal interns must be in law school. The internship is designed for those who are interested in pursuing a career in litigation. Applicants should have strong research, writing, and communication skills and a demonstrated interest in civil liberties and civil rights.

Policy

Interns in this position will research, analyze and draft policy memos and papers regarding bills proposed in the legislative session and current Georgia laws to make educated decisions on how they may affect Georgians and whether they strengthen the ACLU of GA agenda. Interns will have the opportunity to attend governmental body meetings at the local and state level. Applicants should have strong research and writing skills, with a high attention to detail. Upperclassmen or graduate level students preferred.

Voter Rights

Interns in this position will help support the ACLU of Georgia’s flagship Voter Access Project. Interns will actively take part in recruiting, training, and organizing volunteers that are committed to supporting free and fair elections in Georgia. Interns will also be involved in monitoring and responding to developing voting rights issues across the state, including researching and tracking legislation and other policies. Interns should have an interest in political engagement, volunteer organizing, policy analysis and of course, the issue of voting rights. Interns should also have strong writing and communication skills, be able to work collaboratively, be enthusiastic about talking to volunteers, and be detail-oriented.
