With a legacy of more than 60 years of service, the ACLU of Georgia fights every day in the courts, the legislature, and in our communities to protect people's rights and civil liberties. Your membership and other contributions support the work of the ACLU both locally and nationally.

Ongoing financial support is a crucial part of the work we do, ensuring that we have the resources to:

Defend democracy by challenging voter suppression and racial gerrymandering through litigation and promotion of legislation and policy that expand voter access.
Promote a vision of public safety that protects all Georgians, that doesn't rely on over-incarceration or criminalization of poverty.
Ensure that every Georgian has the autonomy and freedom to access reproductive healthcare.
Combat state and local threats to free expression and the right to protest.
Strengthen our statewide network of volunteers and supporters.

Gifts through your IRA

A.Gifts through your IRA

Federal law allows people 70 1/2 and older to make direct contributions of up to $105,000 per year to charitable organizations from their traditional Individual Retirement Account (IRA). This is called a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD). QCD gifts are withdrawals that are not treated as taxable income, and also count toward your annual Required Minimum Distribution.

Making a gift to the ACLU Foundation of Georgia via stock, or other securities (bonds, mutual funds, etc.), allows you to have an immediate impact on the fight for civil liberties.

The total value of your gift is tax-deductible so long as the stock has been held for at least one year. There is no obligation to pay any capital gains tax on the appreciated value.
