In the midst of a global pandemic, Georgia faces a massive shortage of poll workers, especially in our most populous counties and city centers. Our state needs more Georgians to serve as poll workers especially those who are the following:
• Younger Georgians who are at lower risk of COVID-19 complications,
• Lawyers committed to understanding the ins and outs of election law and administration, or
• Tech-savvy to help keep the electronic voter machines up and running.
Poll Worker Requirements
• U.S. Citizen
• At least 16 years of age
• Residents of or employed by the county in which they would be a poll worker*
• Able to read, write, and speak the English language
Once you submit this interest form, the ACLU of Georgia will be in touch to help you sign up, train, and get scheduled with your county of residence to work the polls in Georgia. If you have any questions, please contact us at [email protected]!

*Due SB202 (see page 19), the residency or county employment rule now has an exception. Here's what the new law says:
"(2) A poll officer may be allowed to serve in a county that adjoins the county in which such poll officer resides if, in the discretion of the election superintendent of the county in which such person resides, the waiver of such county residency or county employment requirements of paragraph (1) of this subsection do not impair the ability of the county to provide adequate staff for the performance of election duties under this chapter and if, in the discretion of the county election superintendent in which such person wishes to serve, sufficient need for more poll officers exists."
So what does this statement mean for Georgia poll workers? If you'd like to work the polls on Election Day, you may be able to outside of the county you live or work in due to this new rule. You can now apply for a waiver in a county that is adjacent (next) to the one you either live or work in. To do so, you just need to contact the County Elections office in the adjacent county and see if they can provide you with a waiver, so you may work at the poll in that county on Election Day.
