“A federal court has already found that Sumter County’s Board of Education election system has discriminated against African Americans in violation of the Voting Rights Act,” stated Laughlin McDonald, Director Emeritus of the ACLU Voting Rights Project. "The upcoming elections must wait while the county has a fair election system in place. Taxpayers expect the Sumter County Board of Education to do the right thing rather than waste their precious taxpayer dollars on costly litigation to defend a unfair and discriminatory elections system.”
