WHAT:
Tomorrow a remedial hearing will take place in Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity v. Raffensperger, a case challenging Georgia’s racially discriminatory state legislative district maps, which a federal court recently ordered be redrawn. The hearing will determine whether the maps redrawn by the state during a special legislative session meet the court’s requirements and no longer dilute Black voting power. The court will hear plaintiffs’ objections to the proposed map, arguments from the state, and eventually decide whether to enact it or order a special master redraw it to comply with the Voting Rights Act.
Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., the Sixth District of the African Methodist Episcopal Church, and four individual Georgia voters are represented by The American Civil Liberties Union, ACLU of Georgia, and WilmerHale.
